The Chicago School of Audio Arts
There's a new school in town, a school teaching music production and audio engineering: The Chicago School of Audio Arts. Grammy Award-winning 40-year-veteran Producer Jim Tullio has teamed up with audio engineer legend Shelly Yakus, who's engineered John Lennon, U2, The Band, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, B.B. King, Jill Scott, and dozens of other platinum albums. They're teaching the art of making records. There are no classrooms, just studios, studios with professional artists cutting real tracks. The only way to really learn this business is to experience it firsthand. Find out more about how you can study under amazingly talented mentors and make industry connections that could be life-changing.

About our DJs
Amanda Walz is a lifelong music fan. In her infancy, she'd been known to cry until she heard her favorite Barry Manilow songs. She spent much of her adolescence at record stores and concert venues in the Detroit Metro area. In her 20s, she worked at a record store, had a DJ shift at a community college station, sang in a (horrible) surf punk band and bowled in a league. She studied art history and German language and graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit. Amanda moved to Chicago seven years ago and is currently working on her graduate degree in linguistics. A self-proclaimed feline enthusiast, Amanda has four cats. Her all-time favorite musician is Björk and she still avidly listens to plenty of '80s new wave.
Andy Miles is a veteran of college, community and commercial radio, having produced and presented programs on WORT in Madison, Wisconsin and WLUW-Chicago, among other stations. He has also worked for Wisconsin Public Television and the Federal News Service in Washington, D.C., and written freelance arts and history articles for a dozen print and electronic publications. Today he is owner/editor-in-chief of a transcript production company specializing in congressional hearing transcripts, is owner of Transistor, and Transistor Radio presenter and program director. He also plays in the bands New Missionaries, Airline-X and Feature Flick. Born outside of Chicago and currently residing in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood, he has also called Madison, Washington, D.C., and Berlin, Germany home. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dan Apodaca is almost never not listening to music and only likes playing it more. Growing up in Los Angeles, he moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College and immerse himself in a thriving music scene. His favorite things are creating playlists, comic books, games with friends, and crossword puzzles. His tastes gravitate toward late '90s/early '00s indie rock and he still gets a kick out of seeing the 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' album cover in person.
Jeff GoodSmith is a writer and a resident of the Uptown community. He's worked in the past with such musical establishments as WNUR-FM Evanston/Chicago and pitchforkmedia, and his cultural and musical opinions can be seen as rants on several websites. Jeff holds a degree in English from Northwestern University, and enjoys playing musical styles ranging from indie rock to oldies to electronica and anything in between. Jeff's Transistor Radio sets are accepted by most major HMOs, and when you listen in there is a 13 percent chance you will inherit a basket of puppies from an estranged uncle. You can find his writing online at www.affotd.com, www.elitish.com, and he is a longtime contributor to theheckler.com.
